Geocache Description:

This multi-cache will take you on a tour of historical Smyrna.

The first coordinates are for the parking lot of Lake Como boat ramp/ beach. You should go to the coordinates and park so you can walk the rest of the way. It's easier if you walk because there are multiple stops along Main Street. ABCD are the year that Smyrna was founded, a date which you can find on the town sign which is at the lake. Across the street is Wally's Bar-b-que; the smell is addictive so don't stay here long.

From here head north along main street to N39° 17.907’ W075° 36.213’ and you'll find the "Sage House", one of Smyrna's many historic homes. The year that this home was circa is EFGH.

Keep heading north until you get to the library/opera house (N39° 17.950’ W075° 36.293’). This is one of the oldest buildings in Smyrna. It was burnt down and rebuilt, then they renovated it a few years ago. Read the plaque on the north side. The year that Frederick Douglass spoke hear is letters IJKL.

From the Library head west on South St. and stare at JBM School, which says Smyrna High School even though it isn't. Wow it's really old. Ok, moving on... (I didn't need that many numbers) turn right onto Market St. Plaza. The town hall is at N39° 17.957’ W075° 36.395’. On the left is a plaque dedicated to S. Robert Rebar. The year he was born in is MNOP. Next door is the post office. The two digit address for the post office is letters QR.

Go to the end of Market St. Plaza and turn right onto Commerce St. At N39° 18.019’ W075° 36.419’ is the Smyrna Sun Times office. The year that it was established is letters STUV.

Again go to the corner and make a right back onto Main Street. Soon on your right will be the Smyrna Museum (N39° 18.033’ W075° 36.352’). The year that the building was given in memory of Henry C. and Evelyn T. Webb is WXYZ. From here you can go into Pemberton's Ice Cream at the corner of Main and Commerce (note: someone else bought Pemperton's....now it's called something else but I think they still have ice cream) and sit down and figure out the final coordinates or walk back to your car to drive the rest of the way. The final location is in Smyrna Municipal Park, about half a mile from the museum.

Now substitute the numbers you have found into the final set of coordinates below:

North (C-H)(N+L)° (U-V)(X-Z).(M+O)(A+E)(C-Q)’
West (K-M)(T-R)° (H+L)(J-S).(V-O)(E+I)(T-V)’
N _ _° _ _._ _ _’ W _ _° _ _._ _ _’

If you did it right, the coordinates will be in the park.
This cache was mysteriously displaced during the winter of 04-05, so I'm officially replacing it June 1, 2005 (that took a while). The new coordinates are above.
They will bring you to a very pleasant clearing in the woods. Once you get to the coordinates, there will be marsh on your left, and swamp on your right. You should go straight, where you will hopefully see 2 trees about 4 feet apart, with another fallen tree behind them. From the coordinates to those trees, it's about 16 paces. Continue on past the trees to the woods. You should be able to see some dead logs just inside the woods. There are two logs placed along the edge of the woods to mark the path/entrance. There is very little poison ivy, but you should still watch out. Also, the plants may possibly grow during the summer so that the cache location is harder to recognize. The cache is placed in between 3 logs, to the right of the path. The lid is red, so it should hopefully be easy to see. Please replace the cache exactly as you found it, and also please report any water or damage to the cache. Good Luck!!!
