Historical Site and Memorial
Located along Rt. 15 in Orrington, the Orrington Pound is a Historical Site and contains two Memorials nearby. A wooden structure was originally built in 1807 and was later replaced with the stone pound. It was used to house stray horses, cows, pigs and sheep. The town's historical society has detailed documents dating back to the pound's earliest days. I drive by here at least a couple of times a day so finally decided to place a cache and living nearby makes it easy to maintain. Limited parking is available on the Pound side of the road, going South. Please be careful because this is a heavy traffic area with the PERC Plant nearby. Cache is a pill bottle covered with camo tape. There is limited room for very small items. Please replace cache in the manner it was found. The gate/door leading into the pound has now been locked so the cache is located outside of the wall.
