A summer picnic meet and greet, SUNDAY, AUGUST 1st, between noon and 4pm at the River Bend Farm Visitor Center at the Blackstone River & Canal Heritage State Park, 287 Oak Street, Uxbridge, MA. Special Event cache, travel bug exchange and picnic grove.
Bring your own picnic lunch (charcoal grills are available) and a dessert or munchie for the share table. Name tags will be available to help in your meet and greet activities.
Great opportunity for beginner as well as seasoned cachers to enjoy the company of others and exchange some stories. There will be some new as well as the current caches in the area. There will be about dozen temporary hiding locations set up nearby to practice your GPSr skills.
Bring a canoe or kayak or borrow one for paddling the canal.
FOR THE KIDS there will be a Search for the Painted Turtle with prizes and a chance to trade items.
TRAVEL BUG exchange table will be available. To facilitate smooth transfer, please consider posting a note in advance to drop the TBs you will be bringing. Please take no more than one for each one you bring. If you have an extra one to drop, that will allow a newcomer to grab one if they can help it along. Please sign them in and out on sheet of paper that we use for answering any questions that arise during the weeks to follow. Log them out on website as soon as you can, but do allow some time if they were not dropped early.
CACHE ITEM raffle. There will be a large container for you to optionally place an interesting item. For each item dropped you get a chance at winning the entire contents, winner takes all. Your mission then is to stock a new cache or spread the wealth. Drawing at 3PM.
Directions for those that want them:
Use exit 10A from MassPike for route 146 South, take Route 16 East to Uxbridge Center, turn left on Route 122 North, in 1-1/2 mile turn right at next traffic light onto Hartford Avenue, then in one mile turn right on Oak Street. Visitor Center is large red barn.
From Rhode Island, take Route 146 North to second exit in Mass, Route 16 and follow as above (there are visitor center signs at each turn).
From the east for those traveling I-495, use exits 19 (rt 109) or 20 (rt 85) westbound to Route 16 and turn west. Drive through Milford into Mendon and look for Hartford Avenue to turn right, then in four miles turn left onto Oak Street.
PLEASE USE THE LARGE FIELD FOR PARKING TO LEAVE SPACES AT VISITOR CENTER FOR GENERAL PUBLIC.
