Geocache Description:

This spot is high above Panguich Lake, overlooking Yankee Meadow Reservoir. Fantastic views for miles around. Elevation of cache about 9,700 feet. Hard packed road, but a bit rocky and bumpy, with a gradual climb about half the trip. Very short hike to the cache. Requires off trail hike through fairly flat, low brush. Great display of wildflowers along the drive. Small ammo can filled with quality camping related goodies.

Several years ago, we were exploring this road. We started from Panguich Lake and took the road all the way up and over to Yankee Meadow Reservoir. At the time, there were no signs indicating the last half of the road was ATV-only, and Ranger Dave happened to see us exiting the ATV portion. We were busted! Now we have a Dixie Forest map, and signs are posted. Those with ATVs can approach from either the road to the reservoir or Panguich Lake. Those in cars can only go from the lake to the cache, and must then turn around and retrace their route. We don't have coordinates or help on the entry point from the reservoir road, but we remember you turn off to the left before you get to the reservoir if you're coming in on the Vermillion Cliffs road. From the Panguich Lake side, turn off Highway 143 on to West Shore Drive. At about 1.8 miles, you'll come to a junction. Turn left on to Road # 050, towards Deer Trail Lodge. Cache is about 5.1 miles from this point.
