The Long View Traditional Cache

This cache is located at Long Rock, a remote windswept outcropping with beautiful mountain views in the desolate SE corner of Dupont State Forest. The hike is easy with a bit of a tricky descent once you arrive near the cache.
A couple of hitchhiking hunters showed us this place a couple of years ago after we picked them up and gave them a rough and rocky ride back through the wilder stretches of Pinnacle Mountain Rd. It is a beautiful long stretch of granite with great views of the Blue Ridge. You will find that it is Trail 53 on the DSF map.
(by tazclimber: Trail 53 at Long Rock has been removed from the new DuPont 2005 maps. Some trails have been renumbered. Use the parking and cache coords for the find. Also The cache was moved about 3 feet from the original location .

The easiest way to access this area is to come in from the western approach on Pinnacle Mountain Road. From the end of Reasonover Rd. in the Cedar Mountain community, it is a 2.9 mile drive on the sometimes rocky dirt Pinnacle Mt. road to reach the parking area. You can also drive in from the Hwy 25/Flat Rock side but be prepared for a looong and VERY rocky ride if you choose that route.Walk the length of the rock for about 0.2 mile and enjoy the views as you follow Long Rock to its demise. Be ready for a careful descent at the end.The cache is a medium-sized tupperware container well- covered by leaves, sticks, and rocks. Please seal the lid tightly and conceal back as well as possible.
