This cache is dedicated to the crazy town of Davis and it's love for
toads. It's a good introduction to many aspects of Davis, as the
virtual tour will lead you all over the place before you finally get
done. In fact, by the end of the series of virtual caches if you're
not hoppin' mad at me, you probably missed one.
If you're a true Davis-ite, you'd do the entire thing by bike as
well. I researched the entire series by bike (more than one day), so
I know it's possible. You get an extra gold star if you follow suit.
The parts:
- Heading on I-80 West into Davis, as you go from N38 33.558,
W121 39.897 to the Mace Exit at N38 33.243, W121 41.425 you
will no longer pass a number of frogs on billboards. They were there for many years (4 at least) but have been replaced with other ads now for Lyon's. Anyway, "A" is the number of bright intelligent toads that you used to be able to count. Now, it's easier: there were 6 and this is the number you need for A below. Oh well.
- At N38 32.886, W121 43.575, count the number of Toad
pictures on the sign as remember it as B. Since this sight is also
cache GCJXZW,
you should do that cache while you're here. More information about
this spot: it was created by Ted Puntillo, once the post master and
once the mayor of Davis. He even wrote a book about the Toads of Davis. The placement
of the cache at this site beat my submission for this one by a day.
heh.
- At N38 32.753, W121 44.684 count the number of large,
dizzy toads in the cage and remember this as C. This site is
particularly worthwhile to visit on Wednesday evenings and Saturday
mornings, when the farmers market is going on. But bring your bike,
as parking is impossible during those times.
- At N38 32.612, W121 44.333, count the number of times the
name of the establishment is written on the windows and awnings (D),
the number of frog pictures on the door (E), and the number of physical frogs (not drawn)
in the display case along the wall to the left of the door (F, but
count everything animal-ish in there is a frog... The blue one in the
corner, for example, is certainly questionable but count it
anyway).
- At N38 32.948, W121 44.404 count the number of "TOAD"s at this spot for G
Do some math, just because:
- H = D - E
- I = F - E - (7*D) - C - B - A - G
Final coordinates are N38 33.HHI, W121 40.ACB. The
container is a round glad container with a blue top, about 7" in
diameter and 3" high. If you trade for a toad or frog, please replace
it with something that sticks with the theme. Everything else is fair
game. The final spot is not freeway accessible!, so don't stop on the
freeway.
