Geocache Description:

In 1805, the Creek Indians gave permission to the United States to build a horse path through their nation for more efficient mail delivery between Washington and New Orleans. On July 11, 1811 Brigadier General Wade Hampton began construction of three wagon roads through the Creek Nation. One of these roads became known as the Federal Road.

This is the first of a series of caches which will highlight sections of the Federal Road as it passed through Montgomery County. I hope that you will enjoy the series as much as we have enjoyed putting it together.

On February 13, 1819, a group of settlers in this area formed a church. In December of that same year this church along with four others formed the Alabama Baptist Association. The church was blessed and enjoyed a large attendance. In 1837 this church found itself in the center of a major split over the issue of missions. This resulted in a split of the Church and the formation of Primitive and Missionary Baptists.

This is a micro cache and can be accessed from outside of the cemetery, and was placed by permission. You will need to bring your own pen. After finding the cache take some time to visit and pay your respects to many of the early members of this church.

Inside the gate you will also find a historic marker. Please be respectful of the area. If you see any trash on the ground, please remember to "Cache In and Trash Out" and help keep this area clean.
