This is an absolutely beautiful alpine lake that very few people know about. Unlike some of the other hiker freeways out there you will almost never run into anyone else on this hike. If you forget to bring a bathing suit it’s no big deal, but don’t forget to bring your camera. No wait… that could be interpreted the wrong way.
It about a 3 mile hike, round trip, with about a 1000 foot elevation change. The first half follows and old overgrown logging road. Be aware, I’ve never seen so much scat. The last half is better than a game trail. You can see someone has cut brush away but you still will get soaked if the bushes are wet.
In the winter the terrain goes up to a five. Caution, this looks like a snow slide area.
Driving Directions:
Take I-90 to exit 47 and then go south.
Turn right (west) on the gravel road and travel 1.3 miles.
Turn left (south) on Forest Service road 5510 (N47 23.530 W121 30.494)
You should pass an open gate at N47 23.183 W121 31.326
Park at N47 21.990 W 121 30.746. Don’t block the road to the right.
Hike up the logging road on the left (south).
Stay left (east) at the road junction at N47 21.636 W121 30.432
Go to the end of the road, past the slash pile.
The trail is on the left around N47 21.501 W121 30.271, look around you’ll find it.
Take it east until you come to the main fork of Hansen creek.
You can cross to the east side but you will end up crossing back after a couple hundred feet.
The trail follows the west side of the creek the rest of the way to the lake.
