Geocache Description:

Gliding Hornbill over Mount Santubong

Sometimes you see certain landscapes that you would like everyone to enjoy with you. When you get the chance to see how beautiful our planet can be, you want to share this beauty with everyone. This is a little diamond we discovered in Kuching (capital city of Sarawak, East Malaysia – Borneo Island). Even though it is easily accessible, it will require some driving, since the place is quite far from Kuching (about 30km). If you stay at one of the Damai beach resorts, it’s about 2.5km from the resorts. The cache appears to be a milestone between Kuching and Damai for several reasons:1. It is near the entrance gate of Mount Santubong's Summit trial. Mount Santubong is a huge mountain shaped like a shark tooth sitting proudly in the middle of the rainforest. The path to the summit is awesome and will enable you with some close encounters with the local flora and fauna (if you are lucky, the famous Hornbill - state emblem of Sarawak). The view on the summit of the mountain is worth the 5 hours walk in the yet preserved environment.2. It is an open gate to the South China Sea and lays at a walking distance from the gorgeous beaches of Santubong. Depending on the time of the day, you may see fisherman catching local Lobsters between the rocks or crabs running on an immaculate white sandy beach. The sea is so close that you can actually hear the charming sound of the waves crashing on the sand.3. Most importantly, this cache offers you the BEST SUNSET view!! Our suggestion would be to be at the spot at evening time between 6pm and 7pm.
