The Davis Farm Conservation Reservation is located on the south side of Rt. 117 in northeast Sudbury, 0.2 miles east of the North Sudbury Fire Station. It is a 52-acre tract of land purchased in 1974 for passive recreation. The area presently has trails suitable for walking, bird watching, cross-country skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing. It adjoins a 42-acre parcel of land purchased by the Parks & Recreation Commission, which includes areas for soccer, tennis, football and baseball. A small parking lot at (N42 25.040, W71 24.104) is located parallel to the Penn Central Railroad tracks. While the cache is not located anywhere near the tracks, the old Penn Central has not run for more than 25 years anyway. Future plans are to develop a bike rail-trail along that line. An old farm path, from which several short trails lead, winds south through the land. All trails are marked. The path ends at the base of a sledding slope and field. The Davis Farmhouse was originally built as the Red Horse Tavern in the early 1700’s. Reuben Haynes then bought it and converted it into a thriving dairy farm. He also cultivated apples, pears, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, grapes, vegetables and grain. There is still evidence of many of these fruiting crops on the conservation land today. The Cache is located at (N42 24.806, W71 24.094) and contains the usual treasures and trinkets. After you find it, you'll definitely have to log it in! Try not to get too stumped when searching! Please return cache to the way it was found, and please be discreet. We hope you enjoyed our first placed cache!
