History Revealed Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

inspicio: One or more of the following has occurred:

No response from the cache owner.
No cache to find or log to sign.
It has been more than 28 days since the last owner note.

As a result I am archiving this cache to keep from continually showing up in search lists and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Should you like to resurrect the cache please create a new cache listing so it can be reviewed as a new cache.

4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

This is a tour of historical sites in this area with a cache at the completion. You will need to drive from the initial location to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th waypoints after which you can walk or if really slack you can drive. All of the data required is on the information signs at each waypoint.

If you just gather clues rather than take in the history of each item it should take approx 40 minutes to complete. That is if you can make 1 + 1 = 2, geocaching has caused many much grief in this area in the past. Relax, enjoy and learn a little bit instead…..

So there is no confusion in the maths, any operand needed ( + - X / ) will have the operand mentioned. Ie. 2(A+B) is NOT 2 X (A+B) IT IS the digit 2 and the next digit/s is whatever A+B equals.

---------------------------------------------------------

Starting point is :

S 37 43.453
E 144 50.797

Stand at this spot and if you wish use the power of the item you are near to allow you to complete this hunt. If you look NW from this position you will overlook a valley that contains all of the waypoints that will lead you on your tour in history.

A= The number of sides on the tower.
B=The number of bay naves.
C=(A X B)+2
D=C+7

---------------------------------------------------------

Your next waypoint is located at :

S 37 C.33B
E 144 D.27B

You should now be standing at a majestic house that is no longer a home but used widely in celebrations.

F=When was this item built
G=When was the then owner elected first chairman of the Keilor Road Board
H=G-F-A

---------------------------------------------------------

The next waypoint is located at :

S 37 42.BH4
E 144 D.(A-H)1B

The original entrance

J=The number of children born at this location to Richard and Margaret Griffith
K=Number of rooms in the building ( Not including storeroom )

---------------------------------------------------------

And the next waypoint is at :

S 37 (C+1).JJ1
E 144 D.(A+1)HH

Restored, painted, and extended but still used for its original purpose

L=The last digit of the year this place was dedicated

---------------------------------------------------------

Next waypoint on the tour is :

S 37 (C+1).1(H-J)J
E 144 (D+1).0K(L-B)

Now it’s the arty crafty place

M=How many wheels on the carriage in the picture

From this waypoint its about 800m to ground zero. You should be able to walk from the previous or this waypoint to the end but its up to you. Parking around the waypoints is dependant on the time of day and the day of the week.

---------------------------------------------------------

Continue on to the next way point at :

S 37 (C+1).(K-M)H(A-L)
E 144 (D+1).(A-L)M(K+H)

Good place for a refreshment at the time

There is a picture of a public notice for the Royal Mail.

Leaves Keilor at N am

---------------------------------------------------------

Careful you don’t get hit by a horseless carriage on your way to the next waypoint at :

S 37 (D-H).1N(N-1)
E 144 (C+A).(L-H)KN

Because they are now horseless this location item is no longer there.

P= the last 2 digits of the year that the photo of Phil Seuling and Sid Collier with a dog was taken.

---------------------------------------------------------

The ones with horses would have been easier to avoid on your way to the next waypoint at :

S 37 (C+1).(P+4)K
E 144 (C+A).(N-7)0(N-7)

This is the only one left of the numerous ones built in the area.

Q=The number of characters in the surname of the licensee shown on the pub in the large picture.

---------------------------------------------------------

Nearly there. The next waypoint is at :

S 37 (D-H).M(Q-1)(Q-1)
E 144 (D+1).J(L-Q)M

After your previous location you can stagger across the blacktop to collect eggs from the island in the water. If you have refreshed yourself to excess you could possibly still see the island and the water…..

R= Number of horses in bottom left photo

---------------------------------------------------------

Last waypoint before GZ is located at :

S 37 (C+1).(Q-K)R(Q-K)
E 144 (C+A).(N-Q)(N-Q)N

And we thought tollways were a new item in Melbourne.

T=The number of shillings charged as a toll for a vehicle drawn by 2 animals

---------------------------------------------------------

Hopefully you have learned something about the history of the area in this small tour. There are other locations on the “official” tour as you will have noticed by now but caches exist near or at some of them so I only selected some items of interest.

OK off we go to ground zero at :

S 37 ((Q X L)+1).(Q-J)TL
E 144 ((L X A)-Q).(R+J)TN

The cache is a 500ml plastic container somewhat disguised to match the surroundings and originally contained : A card game, Plastic bracelet, Dinosaur, Sharpener, Alien Parachutist, Kids plastic ring, N.Z. 20 cent piece.

Please make sure the cache is hidden effectively after you find it. Being in the western suburbs of Melbourne snakes can be a bit of a problem at certain times of the year so be careful sticking your hands in crevice’s and under rocks etc without looking first.
