I once sat on a shelf in the
store, as a small, round, bright orange, waterproof match
container. I was in the sporting goods/camping section, and was
hoping to be purchased by an avid hiker who would fill me with
matches, and together, we would hike to beautiful mountaintops
where the sights would leave us breathless. I would help light the
campfire that everyone would sit 'round, roasting hot dogs and
telling stories. Oh, I had such great hopes...
But, instead, I was bought
by a couple of folks who are into something called "Geocaching."
They run around with their little hand-held GPS receivers and use
the likes of ME to play their silly games of "hide and
seek." Now I am HIDDEN AWAY, OUT OF SIGHT in a most unlikely
spot. No one can even SEE my bright orange color! Instead of
holding matches to make a cozy campfire, now I only hold a piece of
paper that is a "log" where OTHER geocachers, playing this silly
game come and find me. They make such a big deal about signing
their name to little a piece of paper! I hear tell that they even
get TOGETHER in restaurants and brag about all their silly "finds."
Whoopy-Doo! So here I am, stuck where I can't see anything. Oh!
This is not even close to what I imagined my life to be!
Note from the "Geocachers:"
Parking is quite obvious. The GPS coords were a little
"shaky." They should take you within a few feet of where the cache
is hidden. You do not have to climb on, open, or unlock anything
EXCEPT THE SECRET of releasing the
cache. Dear Dora found a cache hidden in this manner while visiting
our daughter, Tweetybird440, in California. We thought our local
cachers might enjoy the challenge, as well. This is a sign-only
micro, so be sure to bring a pen or pencil to sign the log!
