Geocache Description:

This is William's Loop. A 1 mile circle to maintain a desired 2% grade.

NOTE: AS OF 4/05/2015 THE CACHE HAS BEEN REPLACED!!! ALL COORDS REMAIN THE SAME.

This is an excellent place to take some great photographs. Especially if you are a railbuff. I have had the pleasure of riding this loop while it was still owned by the Western Pacific. I used to live in Portola and was friends with a couple of the engineers. Access to this area is easy and safe. You never have to cross the rails. The trains usually run an hour apart, so bring a lunch and do some caching while waiting for train. Most of the trains are a mile in length and when that is the case and depending on which way they are heading, the front of the train will pass over or under the rear of the train. The area inside area of the loop is quite scenic and lends itself well to the photographer.

I placed a 6x6x2 cache containing:
RailFan the travel bug
1 carabiner
1 Clip-on digital watch
1 Ronald Reagan DVD

The entrance to the loop can be hard to find, so here are the numbers if you need them. N 39 54.714 W 120 48.578.

Also, the road is not real suitable for a car. Trucks, SUV or Jeeps will have no problem. I went in in my Lincoln Avaitor.

REMEMBER: When around any R.R. always STOP-LOOK-LISTEN...
