Geocache Description:

Easy on-off I-10

California/Arizona Maneuver Area
(Desert Training Center)
WWII

Camp Young Historical Marker identifies World War II's command headquarters for General George S. Patton's huge Desert Training Center. This was established for the training of troops in desert warfare sometime in 1942. It is located not far south of Indio, near the present junction of U.S. 10 and where the Cottonwood Springs Road runs up through the Joshua Tree National Monument.

If you enjoy WWII history, this is a great location to imagine the lives of the million soldiers who trained here.

Cache is a decon container located about 50 feet behind the Historical Marker in a large rock cairn. A well maintained dirt road leads to the marker.
