Your GPS may claim that it is only 5.4 miles from the bridge near Chilhowee Lake to the state line at Deal's Gap. If you think this road is a quick drive, you sure are in for a surprise: there are 318 curves over 11 miles of very remote roadway in this stretch of road, known as "The Dragon."

Why is this road so remote? It forms the western edge of the Great Smoky Mountains NP. If you are traveling south, everything on your left is NPS land, and everything on your right is WMA. This cache is not hidden on the NPS side of the road or on park land. If you find yourself searching around the white boundary signs, you are nowhere near the cache! The cache was hidden with 8 ft accuracy, and the overlook is on the side away from the park land, so you shouldn't even need to be near NPS land.

This overlook isn't much of an overlook anymore due to the vegetation, but it is a great place to stop and take a breather if the endless curves are getting to you. There are several pullouts along the road, but this one always seems to be much less busy than the others. There is no great view (anymore), and no picnic tables, but there are two things worth stopping for (besides this cache, of course): room to stretch your legs, and an easy benchmark, FB2377.

Be aware that this road is very popular among motorcyclists, and can be very busy during nice weekends or holidays. The road can be a little intimidating when busy or not, so be careful and drive safely!
