Geocache Description:

Alive history from over a century ago.

The history behind this tree is interesting, and it is amazing that a tree this old has not died, rotted away, burned, or been chopped down, and it still bears fruit!

Many years ago after I heard about this park, it took me numerous tries to find it. Despite how it looks, you do not have to cross over or walk along any railroad, you do not have to climb any fences to get to this cache. In my pre-cache days I may have tried both of these to find the site. But it is not necessary.

Over a century ago a ship from England had a sendoff dinner. At this party, someone slipped some apple seeds into the Captain's pocket and asked him to plant them in the wilderness. After his arrival in Washington, he gave the seeds to Dr. John McLoughlin. One of these seeds started the tree this park is named for, and the tree became the beginning of apples in the Pacific Northwest.

Even though the tree is over 150 years old, it continues to produce apples, and despite the hollow trunk and unique twisting it still survives. The annual Old Apple Tree Festival is held on the first Saturday in October from 10 am to 2 pm at the Old Apple Tree Park. The Urban Forestry Commission gives away tree cuttings from the Old Apple Tree to each visitor. All activities are free.

Let the number of white posts be A.

Let the number of faucets on the fountains be P.

Let the number of fountains be L.

6*A=E

2*P=T

(2*A)+(5*L)=R

Now you have everything from APPLE TREE to find the cache.

Add E to T. Subtract that number from the last three digits of the North coordinate.

Subtract 10 from R. Add this number to the last three digits of the West coodinate.

Now find that cache. Remember to take a pen, since it is a micro. There may be large numbers of people around the cache, so be stealthy. If the log is getting full, let me know.

When my dad came down from Anchorage Alaska for a visit I took him on a week of geocaching. At the end I asked him where he wanted to place a cache. He said in this park.

11-17-08 I replaced the container again

9-24-04 I replaced the missing cache after work.
