This puzzle challenge is based on a logic puzzle I encountered many years ago so I thought I would modify it for Geocaching. There was also a similar Dos game around at that time called Sherlock, which presented a comparable challenge.
I have had a lot of fun over the last few months and couldn’t resist hinting or mentioning some of the names that SA_ParrotHead have encountered.
Sorry if I missed your name but I only had a limited number of entries.
The co-ordinates shown above are for a park on the way to this cache.
Complete the puzzle, solve the equation and locate a cache full of fun and games.
Part 1 – Find the Panda Bear
- 1. There are five caches in a row numbered 1 to 5 starting from the left to right.
Each has a different coloured logbook with individual log entries.
Every cache contains one figure, one furry animal and an individual item.
- 2. The Freddo Frog figure is in the cache with the Yellow logbook.
- 3. The Herman Munster figure is in the cache with the furry Kangaroo.
- 4. The Arnott’s Chocolate assorted key ring item is in the cache with the Red logbook.
- 5. The Flash Gordon figure is in the cache with the Unicycle pendant item.
- 6. The cache with the Red logbook is immediately to the right of the cache with the Blue logbook.
- 7. The cache with 28 log entries also contains the furry Lamb.
- 8. The cache with the White logbook has 37 log entries.
- 9. The Matchbox Rav 4 car item is in the middle cache.
- 10. The Travel Bug Air Force guy figure is in the first cache on the left.
- 11. The cache with 18 log entries is located next to the cache with the furry Piggy.
- 12. The cache with 37 log entries is located next to the cache with the furry Green Gecko.
- 13. The cache with the Coopers beer mug item has 31 log entries.
- 14. The Smurf figure is in the cache with 14 log entries.
- 15. The Travel Bug Air Force guy figure is in the cache next to the cache with the Green logbook.
- 16. That leaves you to work out which cache has the Telescope item and …
which cache has the Furry Panda Bear.
Part 2 – Calculate cache co-ordinates.
The co-ordinates needed to solve this puzzle can be found by applying the following calculation.
Latitude: S 34° 34° A . (N-E) (((B*C)+(D*E))-(E+G))
Longitude: E 138° H . (((I-J)*(K-L))+(M-(G*N)))
A = 40 + (the cache number containing the Matchbox Rav 4 car item)
B = (the number of log entries in the cache containing the furry Panda bear)
C = (the cache number of the cache containing 18 log entries)
D = (the number of log entries in the cache containing the Unicycle pendant)
E = (the cache number of the cache containing the Herman Munster figure)
F = (cache number containing the Telescope)
G = (the cache number of the cache containing the furry Green Gecko)
H = 40 + (the cache number containing the Travel Bug Air Force guy figure)
I = (The number of log entries in the cache containing the Coopers beer mug)
J = (cache number which contains the Yellow logbook)
K = (the number of log entries in the cache containing the furry Piggy)
L = (cache number which contains the Blue logbook)
M = (the number of log entries in the cache with the Freddo Frog Figure)
N = (the cache number of the cache containing the Smurf figure)
Part 3 – Locate the cache.
Update 8/12/2023. The housing estate has changed the location where the cache was originally hidden and is no longer a viable hide location for a final. Someone's front lounge window now looks out over the cache. I will be moving the cache to an area away from the road deeper into the reserve. There is also a new container so the original container details are no longer relevant. You are looking for a small container.
The cache is in a clip lock container and initially contains the following items
Logbook and pen/pencil
2 3.25 disks containing original Dos Sherlock game
Knuckles game called Bones
Magic puzzle ball
Packet of dice
2 3D mazes
Fairy jigsaw puzzle
Packet of cards
Ludo board game

Please put the cache back the way you found it as there appears to be a lot more traffic in this area from when I originally scouted out the site. A cattle paddock now has houses
