Near Aratiatia Hydro Station, North of Taupo.
Construction of the Aratiatia Hydro Station began in 1959 and was completed in 1964.
A public outcry at the loss of the beautiful Aratiatia rapids resulted in the waters being "turned on" at specified times for public viewing. Although this cache can be accessed at any time it would be to your advantage to be there at any of the specified times of 10.00am, 12.00am, 2.00pm plus 4.00pm in the summer .
There is a lovely 10 min. bush walk to the top lookout where the best viewing is to be had.
The cache is housed in a green snaplock box and is accessable from the pathway. " keep out of the blackberries."
GPS reception can somtimes be patchy under the trees.
