The City of the Rocks is a personal favorite spot of mine. The 'City' was formed due to Local Volcanoes violent eruption millions of years ago. If you choose to venture into the park, a daily pass is $5.00. If you are a frequent visitor of New Mexico State parks then you may be interested in purchasing a year pass. It's good until the end of 2005. The cost is $40 but it is good in any of N.M. state parks. A very nice investment, or at least it'll give you an excuse to visit more parks.
