We like to go to this park and let our children play in the stream. While there, we always stop and take a group photo at what we have named Picture Rock. It is a perfect setting for everyone to climb on and pose for a family picture.
To find this cache, you should first splash your way down the trail to Picture Rock. Then head to the near-by cache, which is located in an out-of-the way location off the trail.
Picture Rock is located at the following coordinates (reception can be poor in the trees):
N 37° 22.640
W 113° 28.256
There are two approaches:
- Park at the Reservoir parking lot and hike EAST along the lake
- Park at the West Ponderosa Picnic Area and walk WEST along the stream letting your children play and splash around on the way...
We usually do a combination of the two routes; we park at the West Ponderosa Picnic Area, play on the way down the stream, exit at the reservoir, and then hike back up the road to where we originally parked (roughly a 1 mile round trip).
Access to any area beyond the reservior by road is limited to Summer months. A gate bars travel on the road past the reservior from roughly September to sometime in May, each year. Based on snow depth, you might be able to access Picture Rock and the cache in the Spring and Fall.
This geocache is well hidden, but worth the search. It’s great for children.
Don't forget to take your group picture!
