Moderate walk from free roadside parking, to an alternative view of the falls - PLEASE KEEP TO THE PATHS.
A moderate walk by footpath from Skelwith Bridge leads to a 15-foot high waterfall, Skelwith Force. It is most interesting to view after heavy rains when the water cascades down. It is not as high as some of the other falls but very powerful and with caution you can stand above it and look down on the thundering force! A ford across the river was the impetus for the growth of the village through which the Cumbria Way walk passes before heading up to Elterwater.
THIS CACHE HAS BEEN RELOCATED - CO-ORDINATES AND CLUE CHANGED ACCORDINGLY.
August 2006 - The Cache has been relocated yet again, away from the NT works and near the edge of the forest.
March 2007 - location Number 5
! (Hope they don't dig the high path up next!! - we are not giving up on this one
)
There is a great deal of work in progress - landscaping, new paths, new bridge and new viewing points. The old viewing point has been left in-situ and is still accessible if you want to get really close to the falls - if you do please take care!
