I first put this cache out 3 years ago, and some things have
changes since then, so I'm updating it as of August 2007. There is
apparently only one way to the cache area now, and the ratings have
been altered to reflect this. Apparently, the access from I84
westbound no longer exists, or it does, but it's a 'no parking'
area, so I suggest any cachers follow the directions here. The best
way is to park at the rest area on eastbound I84 (after entering
the rest area, take the little road to the right to get you
closer). At that point you will have to walk along the river, under
the bridge, and up to the little old road that takes you into
Devil's Gate. You will encounter rock scrambling, underbrush, and
other minor physical hazards on the way to the old road. Good
access to fishing, though!
Three years ago, I put the cache in a camo'ed Rubbermaid
container, but I suspect it's pretty well worn after the years.
Looking back, an ammo box would have made sense for this
area...:-)
Once you get to the little road, it's your basic canyon-type
area, so you can't expect the best GPS reception, which is why I
make the hint so detailed. Also, there's a lot of trash around
there, so this is a prime cache-in trash-out area.
UPDATE: In early August, 2008, the container was replaced with
an ammo can, which is either appropriate or ironic, your choice.
Thanks to hurryinabadway for helping out!
I hope you enjoy your visit to Devil's Gate! And if you hear
shooting, DUCK AND COVER!
