Geocache Description:

ALtitude: 146 m The cache size: 20x18x8 cm

This is a cache in the area of the nuclear power plant located at Paks (see visit) The townitself is along Road 6 about halfway between Budapest and Pécs, and it is a favourite stop for drivers on this long way. If they get hungry, there are three fish-restaurants to choose from. One is at Dunakömlöd (belonging officially to Paks), and two at Paks proper (one of them is the famous "Paksi Halászcsárda" and the other - with lower prices - "Kishalász Bisztró"), all within a distance of 3 km. In addition, interesting excavations can be found in the same area. And, of course, you can enjoy the beauties of Danube. To find the cache, a good starting point is the parking of the restaurant at Dunakömlöd (N 46° 39,558' E 18° 52,859' 104 m). You should walk up on"Sánc-hegy utca", following the red cross and then the red L tourist signstoward the cache, located at N 46° 39,341' E 18° 52,891' 146 m. It is 500 m walk with some slope at the beginning. The name of the target is Lussonium, the remains of a Roman fortress. Before the Romans, Celts lived in this area, which was attached to the Roman Empire during the reign of Ceasar Claudius, between 41 and 54 AD. During the times of Ceasar Valentinianus, in the period of 350-370 AD, a significant fortress was built here, under the name of Lussonium. It also served as a settlement of veterans, as proven by a very rare military diploma found here. According to this, the first citizen of Paks (Dunakömlöd) known by name was Master Tessimarus. Excavations have been done here since 1969, and an exhibition, the first in Tolna county on Roman times, was opened in 2003. The cache is hidden at a locust-tree, 50 meters northwards from the ancient walls. In the logbook there is a password that you should send to the e-mail address of the hider. This cache was the starting point of a Travel Bug called "Geobogrács", which is a mini model of pots used to cook fish soup, a favourite dish of the area Geobogrács Geobogrács. See Danube On the bank of River Danube, close to a Mall of 100-years old horse-chestnut trees. We hope you enjoyed this cache, and in the meantime tasted the famous fish soup ("halászlé" in Hungarian) in one of the restaurants. If not, you still have the chance!
