One of the most challenging geocaches from Big Mick B to date.
Deep within the wilderness north of Arcadia and Fiddletown lies an abandoned orange orchard planted years ago by people long forgotten. (Possibily by Mr J. A Simpson - thanks i,riblit) This orchard has continued to flourish and still produces oranges of an astounding quality.
There are two ways to reach this cache.
Firstly by boat. Launch your boat from wherever you think is best and head for Marramarra Creek. There's an easy spot to land the boat at S33 31.351 E151 06.260. From there, proceed to the cache by foot. However this method is best attempted on high or high-high tide. Be sure to check the tide charts before setting out.
For those that don't have access to a boat, the cache is still accessible by foot. Find your way to Bloodwood Rd and find the turn off to Marramarra Ridge Trail very close to S33 34.058 E151 04.478. From there, follow the fire trail to its end near the locked gate (no smugglers). The car park should be about 3.5 km's to Marramarra Creek. Check the sign.
From the car park, proceed on foot and follow the fire trail and your GPS. Coba Bay isn't all that interesting.
It is a fair walk in by foot, and a moderate degree of fitness will be required. (at least for the walk back out!) Please remember to take plenty of water, sun protection and good walking shoes. Geopups may not be allowed, and the walk may only be suitable for the geokiddies if you really want them to sleep well that night.
The oranges you find are free for the taking, however please only take what you think you can use. The oranges are best picked around late June/July, although I think there's another good two or three weeks left in them at the time of placement. The geocache itself is a large metal ammo box and its contents includes a first finders certificate, an orange juicer, and other assorted geo-goodies. I fear I forgot a geocache stash note, so perhaps someone could perhaps do me a favour and drop one in there?!
