Geocache Description:

Eastern Tennessee is considered part of the "Bible belt" and the surrounding Smoky Mountain communities hold their religious believes in high esteem!.

He's Alive!

Shults Grove United Methodist Church

Built in 1914

Rocky Flats, Tennessee

This is the first in a series of He's Alive! caches.

Many of the local Smoky Mountain churches have small congregations, are quaint and friendly, and their structures have a very typical country facade.

Frequently small in size, though large in stature, the church is distinguished by being white in color with a double or sometimes single door step-up entrance and a steeple as modest as the congregation within. The more "luxurious" steeple will house a meeting bell.

Shults Grove United Methodist Church is a "Genuine Country Church" with a small but very active and loving congregation. Its structure is so unique that one of the major entertainers chose to film it and the film is seen by thousands of people at Dollywood everyday. The land the church sits on was donated by the Shults family in 1914. The church is located 1.4 miles off Highway 321 on Rocky Flats Road. If you decide to attend services; you are sure to get a country welcome at this church.

Shults Grove United Methodist Church was the location for the church scenes, (including Dolly Parton's singing performance of the song 'He's Alive'), in the original film production featured at Dollywood; 'HEARTSONG'. Heartsong is a unique musical experience in which you share, with Dolly Parton, a lifetime of her Smoky Mountain inspiration. The breathtaking scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains combined with Dolly's music, weaves together a powerful story about her deep feelings for family, friends, faith and values.

Church services are held each Sunday at 3:00PM and you will find a warm welcome and God is always present. Come, casually dressed, and let this lovely country mountain community church be your "home away from home church" anytime you are visiting the Smokies, Gatlinburg, or Cosby area!

This cache is located very near the Shults Grove United Methodist Church off of US 321 at Rocky Flats and E. Balls Hollow Road in the Smoky Mountain community of Rocky Flats. The cache container is an ammo box originally containing small Dollywood, Gatlinburg and Smoky Mountain souvenir items as well as an assortment of other goodies.

Please remember the exact place and position you retrieve the cache so as to return it in the same manner!

**Rocky Flats was the childhood summer home of my late Cousin, Don E. Schultz-May 24, 1950 to Aug 2, 2004. Some relatives still reside in this area.-May he RIP**
