THIS CACHE IS NOT INSIDE OF THE TUNNEL!!! IT IS ON TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN!!! IT IS AN OFF SET CACHE, THEREFORE YOU SHOULD READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION!!! Parking for this cache can be found at 42*39.615 73*01.263. Road to the parking is closed in the winter, available to snowmobiles.
Coordinates bring you to eastern alignment tower, which was used to make the Hoosac Tunnel straight during construction. It is a very interesting structure. Cache is slightly offset of this position. Once you have found the remains of the alignment tower, the cache is approximately 18 paces from the north facing doorway. If this cache is of an interest to you, you may want to check out a similar cache called Lost To Time by a fellow geocacher, which brings you to the corresponding western tower. This cache is an ammo can.
