Geocache Description:

The Metroparks are hosting a geocaching event / picnic on Saturday, September 11th and would love to have you spend the afternoon with us and several others from the geocaching community. We have provided you with the coordinates to the picnic below. The catch is that you are going to have to do a little bit of work to find the missing information in the coordinates provided.

Six of the digits have been replaced with letters. The digits that you need have been imprinted on gold coins with the letter equivalent and have been hidden in six of our thirteen parks. If you are familiar with Bill and Gary’s Excellent Adventure III you know what you will be looking for. Find all six 1 ½” diameter gold coins and you will have the missing information to figure out the coordinates. There are no hidden caches and there are no log books, just the hidden coins.

Bill and Gary from B&G’s Excellent Adventure III will be cooking hot dogs and flipping burgers from noon to 2 p.m. This will give you the opportunity to let them know how easy their adventure was this year and that next years needs to be a little more creative and challenging. Can they make next years anymore difficult? A self guided geo walking tour of a unique portion of the park will be held earlier in the day starting at 10 a.m.

Here you go! The coordinates to the picnic are North 4A BC.662, West 8D EF.571

The coordinates to the six hidden coins are listed below.

A - N42 03.852, W83 11.575
The trails leading here were constructed this spring extending the length of the paved hike-bike trail to three miles. Renovations to the adjacent pool deck will begin this fall. Make sure you come back next summer when the renovations are complete. Construction of a new comfort station is also wrapping up.

B – N42 33.897, W82 47.001T
he adjacent hike-bike trail, gazebo, and fishing platforms were constructed in 2003. The trail improves access for bikers, inline skaters and walkers. Enjoy the great views from this remote area of the park.

C – N42 07.331, W83 22.053
Children have enjoyed the facility in the distance for over 25 years. A new one is being constructed near by and should be ready to open shortly. The adjacent skatepark opened last year and a halfpipe was added at the end of July. We hope kids will enjoy these facilities for years to come.

D – N42 24.484, W83 54.550
This area opened in this spring and provides fisherman better access to the Huron River. A new section of the paved hike-bike trail opened in the spring and now connects the group camp with the rest of the park. Look for an additional 2.1 miles of trail to be constructed in 2005.

E – N42 33.117, W83 38.027
This structure was built with the help of a generous donation given by a park patron. In 2005 we will begin construction on a new food bar to replace the existing structure built in 1974.

F – N42 45.618, W83 04.516
This facility has been in use for some forty years. A new one will be constructed in 2005. Take a look around and come back to see our new facility when it is complete.

For all the slackers not up for the adventure and those who have had all their energy zapped from the Metroparks adventure and B&G’s Going for the Gold Adventure the coordinates to the picnic are
N42 43.662, W83 06.571. We hope to see you at Stony Creek! Please spread the word to others in the geocaching community.

Please R.S.V.P. by Monday, September 6 to tim.phillips@metroparks.com to let us know how many in your family are planning to attend.

You only have a short time to complete this adventure so start plugging these coordinates into your GPS unit now!

Satellites are waiting.
