This cache is a trip through the Spotsylvania Courthouse Battlefield. You will have to visit several locations in the battlefield and then you can go after the physical cache which is nearby but off of NPS land. All locations on the battlefield can be reached by trails. Please use trails only while at the battlefield.
For #4 below, if there is a letter the system used is:
a=1 b=2 c=3 d=4 e=5 f=6 g=7 h=8 i=9 j=0.
The final location of the cache is at
N 38 12.ABE W 77 37.CDF
A through F will be found as listed below. NOTE: References to row numbers on signs are the rows of text in the body and DO NOT include any title or heading on the sign.
1. Go to N 38 13.413 W 77 36.005. There is a monument with an inscription on the South side. From Line 1, double the first number. That will be "A" in the final cache location. Subtract 3 from A to get B.
2. Go to N 38 13.679 W 77 35.610. There is a plaque that set in the stone, and a date on Line 7. Subtract the first digit from the second. and this will be "E" in the final cache location.
3. (If you are tired, drive to this one.) Go to N 38 13.210 W 77 35.993 On right panel here, there is a reference to the Landram House. Add 2 to the difference between the numbers (it's mileage.) This is C.
4. Drive to this one. Go to N 38 12.915 W 77 35.486 Using the letter system mentioned above (a=1, etc.), you want Line 5, letter 12 or line 10, letter 24. Add 9 to this and you have "D" for the final cache location. F=D-4
Plug A, B, C, D, E, and F into the below coordinates and you will find the final physical cache.

UPDATE: 12/8/14 - original final has been muggled too many times now. Moving far away, but not changing the math as described above.
Placed with permission of the landowner. Pull in the driveway and turn to the left. The cache should be right in front of you. It's not advisable to park on the road as the neighborhood looks out for strange vehicles. If the car is in the driveway, stop and say hi. Dawn to Dusk please.
