This riverside trail is on an old railroad bed. It is bike, boat, ski, and foot accessable. REHIDE IT WELL! Be sure to look at the photo of "How it used to be" in the link below because it will explain the structures you see on your way to the cache.!
Be careful where you walk and put your hands there are openings to animal burrows here hidden by the leaves in the fall. This 12 oz box is hidden near the river. The big platform you pass on the river is a bulk distribution terminal for ESSROC. ESSROC (part of Italcementi) is the fifth largest cement producer in North America. ESSROC operates eight clinker and cement production facilities and one grinding plant in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Previously keelboats filled with coal and other bulk supplies met the railroad here at the many docks of Turning Point. Don't let the mention of this terminal lead you to think this is an industrial setting - most people who see the area aren't even aware of what the large dock is for, and the trail is very picturesque. This trail links into the Genesee Riverway Trail. If you haven't already experienced the elevated walkway through the marsh in the turning basin it is a must while you are here. There are numerous very nice caches within a mile of here.
