Geocache Description:

This cache is located along the beautiful Presumpscot River Preserve on the Falmouth-Portland line.

The Presumpscot River Preserve is part of the Portland Trails system. "The Presumpscot River Preserve occupies 60 acres of land along the Presumpscot River in Portland and Falmouth. This spectacular land is marked by cascading brooks, deep gorges, and ancient trees leaning into the river. The land serves as a crucial link between Casco Bay and numerous upstream communities stretching to Sebago Lake. It is also located in the heart of Maine's most populous area." The Smelt Hill Dam was removed in 2002. This restored the natural flow of the river and the power of the Presumpscot Falls. This information and more can be found at www.trails.org. The cache is located just over a half mile along the trail. There are beautiful views of the falls and the river. The trail is well maintained, but parts can be muddy. The cache is a small tupperware-style container. The trail is best accessed from Overset Drive. (Allen Ave. to Summit St. to Curtis St. to Overset.) Limited parking is available. There are Portland Trails signs marking the area. Enjoy the cache and the river! Updated coords 9/2/06
