This cache has been archived.

Nomex: Hi
As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm temporarily archiving this to keep it from continually showing up in search lists. Just contact us when you have the cache repaired, [RED]and assuming it still meets the guidelines[/RED], we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Don't hesitate to email me via the link on my Profile if you have any questions. [red]Please be sure to include the cache name and GC Code, or better yet, the URL of the cache page.[/red]

Thanks for your cooperation!

Geocache Description:

A short hike in a rugged, sometimes steep area. Not the best cache for kids because of some steep terrain.

Squarenail is an area well known to rock climbers. In spite of the difficult terrain rating, it is frequented by climbers often, so use caution when retrieving and replacing the cache.
Look around on the ground in the area and you'll see how it got it's name. The old Fresno Flume ran through here years ago, and when it burned, nothing but the square nails used to build it were left behind.

Fresno Flume rocks

For the easiest access, park at these coordinates: N 37° 02.340 W 119° 24.492. The trailhead starts right there - if your back is to the road, the trail will be to your left. See the pictures for more detail.

You're looking for a standard ammo can - please be sure to hide it as well as or better than you found it.
When placed, the cache contained:

  • Geocaching letter
  • Log book & pen
  • Fireman 78 Geocoin
  • Endless Summer travel bug
  • Flashlight
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Tape measure
  • Bag of marbles
  • Dick Van Dyke Show 3 episode DVD
  • Andy Griffith Show 3 episode DVD
  • Dial hand sanitizer gel
  • Book light
  • Cargo net
  • Travel umbrella
  • Blue sunglasses
  • New Ernie Pez dispenser
  • Small garden gloves for a wee geocacher
  • Geocaching button/pin from Los Conquistadors cache in Capitola
  • Wooden bead bracelet from We Lost Our Marbles cache in Calaveras County
  • Ring from the carousel at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
  • Two square nails picked up at the cache site

Please be very careful when hiking the trail and at the cache site, as you will be near some steep cliffs! This cache is not recommended for small children or anyone who doesn't like heights. In the summer months you should bring some water - it's not a long hike unless you lose the trail, but it gets hot up there! We've never seen any, but there have been sightings of snakes in the area, so watch your step.

Happy caching!
