Geocache Description:

This is the first cache ever in Adams County and was placed by kaylizgene on Aug 1, 2004. It had gone missing for over a year and I adopted it on Fed.24, 2010 so it would not be archived and lost forever. I would like to give a special thanks to the kaylizgene team for allowing me to adopt this historic cache......Don. I'm littlechristy2000 and I just adopted this on 6-30-2020. I'm hoping to keep this going and hoping to keep the muggles out.

This cache has been muggled a couple of times.

I recommend you NOT leave trackables here.

This cache is placed with permission of the

Decatur Parks Department.

The Old Rail-Road Bridge

Erie Railroad use to run through here many years ago. This was part of the New York to Chicago main line. It is now a Rivergreenway.
The original Iron Truss bridge is part of the trail. I think it was built when the Erie was double tracked, (around 1915) and was last used in the Fall of 1979.

This is our first cache. (kaylizgene team,Donfixit and littechristy2000.)

The shortest way get to this cache (and the only way when the river is flooded) is by parking on a street close to the corner of Mercer Ave. and Oak St. and taking the River Greenway to the east.
Please use the sidewalk to reach the trail avoiding any yards.

However a much nicer way to get there is to turn onto Angus St. directly across from the main entrance to the hospital and enter Kekionga Park at the end of Angus St. Where Angus St. ends at Dormac St. is where Kekionga Park Rd. starts. (I know, it looks like a driveway on the left side of a house.) Follow the park road on back to the Kekionga Park Boat Ramp on the RIVER.
(Not to be confused with the Public Access boat ramp to the POND that has signs pointing to it a block before the end of Angus St.)

Park at N40 49.406 W84 54.849 and take the paved trail to the left.

Hint: Don't go down the hill.
