When I was here in about 1965, all fish caught in the flowage were
to be brought to the ranger station to be identified, weighed and
measured for a study being done by the DNR.
Located in the NW corner of Rusk County, Murphy Flowage was once
a popular fishing and camping area until the original concrete dam
washed out in 1970 destroying a large section of hillside, the
ranger station and the bridge below. The area was abandoned.
Several years ago, an earthen dam was installed and the flowage
and it's fish population are now renewed. The campground and
facilities have been rebuilt and improved.
Murphy Flowage is on The Wisconsin Ice Age Trail.
