Geocache Description:

Cache and puzzle updated August 8, 2011. This cache was original part of a long series of caches with this hide being the final. The final has remained in place, but the puzzle has changed. No new logs if you found it the old way, please.

Originally, when this cache was published on August 8, 2004, in order to find this cache, you had to find 7 micro caches hidden throughout the South Hills. As time went on, they were all archived, but the End of the Rainbow lived on. Rather than archive this cache, and lose it's history, we've decided to keep the hide in the same location but change the puzzle, making it accessible again!  This cache puzzle has been redone and is ready to be found again on it's 7th anniversary!

In order to find Pot o Gold End of the Rainbow:

  • Red = Number of times the cache was found on 9/4/2004
  • Blue =Number of DNFs logged prior to 8/7/2011
  • Indigo = Number of caches originally int he Pot O' Gold Series, including the final
  • Yellow= Add the number of letters in the first to find cacher's name + the number of letters in the second to find cacher's name. Then subtract 11.
  • Orange = Number of times found in 2005 - (number of times found in 2004 + number of times found in 2006)
  • Green = Number of times found in August 2004 - 1

Pot O' Gold: End of the Rainbow

It seems as if Pittsburgh cachers have a love/hate relationship with micros.  Chris and I love them; everyone else hates them!

Well, the Pot O’ Gold series of caches will give you the best of both worlds.  In order to earn a trip into the woods, you must first find seven micros located in very public places around the city.  The micros may not be especially challenging hides, but getting to them without being seen will be!  You will also find that many of the seven micros are placed in areas that are nearby other regular sized caches to promote visits to these caches as well!

In order to find Pot O’ Gold: End of the Rainbow, you must first visit each of the colors in the rainbow.  At each of these seven caches, you will be given information that will help you find the End of the Rainbow.  Six of the seven micros will list one of the coordinates for End of the Rainbow, and the other will provide you with a form to fill in the given coordinates.  You do not need to complete these in any given order, but be sure to take a pen/pencil to sign the log, and also a piece of paper to keep track of the coordinates.

After completing Pot O’ Gold: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet, you will be on your way to finding Pot O’ Gold: End of the Rainbow.  This final cache is an ammo can hidden in South Park, in an area that we don’t believe many will be familiar with.  As the name suggests, End of the Rainbow is filled with nicer trade items, so please keep this in mind when trading.  Also, for the first lucky finder, we have left another cache that is stocked and ready to be placed.  Please hide this cache within a ten mile radius of where you found it!  The cache to take is the round Rubbermaid container—NOT the ammo can!
