This cache has been archived.

Tn cacher: Greetings from Geocaching.com.

It looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While we feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can't do so forever. So that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.
If you are in the process of replacing or repairing your cache please e-mail me in response to this archival, and I will unarchive your cache.
After we posted a note to you cache requesting a response from you to post what you were planning to do with the cache on the page and sending us a note. We have no record of a response, and no response tells us that you are not planning on replacing, or repairing this cache if we are wrong with that assumption please let me know.
I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

He's Alive! VII

First Red Bank Baptist Church

This is the Eighth in a continuing series of He's Alive! caches.

Many of the local Smoky Mountain churches have small congregations, are quaint and friendly, and their structures have a very typical country facade.

Frequently small in size, though large in stature, the church is distinguished by being white in color with a double door step-up entrance and a steeple as modest as the congregation within. The more "luxurious" steeple will house a meeting bell.

First Red Bank Baptist Church, located on then Old Pittman Center Road, was first a Primitive Baptist Church. The first building, made of logs, was torn down and rebuilt about 1870.

The church and community had a pie supper to raise money to buy the bell, which still rings out over the community every Sunday morning and Sunday and Wednesday nights. The two front rooms were built in 1900.

In the early 1940s, Cam Butler gave land to enlarge the cemetery around which he built the fence that is still there. About the same time, a rock wall was built along the road. Bill and Andrew Elder hauled the rocks that were used to build the wall from the long ford with a horse- drawn wagon.

The church was remodeled and redecorated in 1966. J. B. McCarter and Hobert Maples dug the basement by hand. Three Sunday School rooms were added and a well was dug. Indoor bathrooms and carpet have been added in recent years and friends and church members donated a new rostrum and pews in memory of loved ones. The church bought a new piano in 1987.

The best time to visit this geocache is obviously during non Sunday meeting hours as there will be less traffic in the immediate area.

This cache is located near the First Red Bank Baptist Church off of Red Bank Road in Sevierville, Tennessee. A camouflaged 51oz. Gatorade canister is your quest.

Please remember the exact place and position you retrieve the cache so as to return it in the same manner!

Godspeed and enjoy the hunt!
