This is a beautiful place for hiking and geocaching as you make your way through the valley. There is a stream on your left and rocky hillsides on either side of the trail. This cache is located on the Mid-State Trail in Bedford County, PA.
09/2013 - Cache has been replaced. Please put the lid back onto the container after opening. We recently found it with the lid off and the contents wet.
The access road (Maple Run Road) is located just off Pulpit Road at N40’ 13.345 W078’ 19.705. The best place to park is at N40’ 12.780 W078’ 18.618. The trailhead for the MST is located at N40’ 12.770 W078’ 18.603. It is also clearly marked with an MST trail sign. During hunting season be sure to wear blaze orange as this area is used by hunters often. To follow the MST to the cache stay on the trail by following the orange blaze markings. Double orange blaze indicates a turn. You will never leave the main trial during this hunt. This portion of the MST is in the Maple Run areaThe container is a large coffee can with various items including a travel bug called “Don’t Bug Me.”Information regarding the MST:The Mid State Trail System (MST) is a long distance hiking trail and its side trails in central Pennsylvania. The current northern end is at the West Rim Trail on Bohen Run north of Blackwell and the southern end is a junction with Green Ridge Hiking Trail in Maryland at the Mason-Dixon line. The MST is almost entirely on public land: state forests, game lands and parks. It links or traverses a token roadside rest (Penn DOT), a covered bridge built in 1879, Huntingdon and Broad Top RR grade, two scout camps, two fire towers, three state forest wild areas, five state forests, four state game lands, four state forest picnic areas, eight state parks and eight state forest natural areas, as well as Stone Valley Recreation Area, the Lower Trail, and the Woolrich Factory Outlet Store. The Frankstown to Burnt Cabins Indian Path is crossed and the Great Island Indian Path is followed in part by MST.We hope you enjoy this hike as much as we do. We often hike this portion for relaxation and to get away for the afternoon. The proper paperwork has been filed with the DCNR at the Southcentral Regional Office, Game Commission.
