Geocache Description:

** Caution: This cache may be guarded by an ant hill in the summer...beware!
Cache is an easy find located very close to a road.

This cache is likely your first opportunity for a cache find when you come to Cape Breton Island via the Canso Causeway. We placed it near the causeway because chances are, if you’re like us, you’ll be in a hurry to get to Cape Breton or you’ll be late leaving. If you are just passing through it can be a quick break or leg stretcher.

There is no need to do any bushwacking, and you should be able to park within a few meters of the cache.

Here are a few quick facts about the Canso Causeway:

The Causeway reaches a maximum depth of 218 feet at low tide. The actual length of the Causeway from shore to shore is 4300 feet. The width at the top is 80 feet and up to 800 feet at the bottom.

This makes the Canso Causeway the deepest causeway in the world. Because the south side of the causeway, Chedabucto Bay, became completely ice free, it allowed for large supertankers to dock in the Strait of Canso.

Today the Strait is known as one of the three locations on the North American Atlantic coast that is capable of accommodating even the largest anticipated super tankers.

Cache is a small Lock-n-Lock container and originally contained a log book, a small picture frame, rubber ball, stickers, bungie cord, tops,etc...
