Geocache Description:

The cache is located in the village of Nunney just south of Frome, Somerset. The area can get muddy after rainy weather so suitable footwear is advised. Depending on whether you drive between the 2 stages of the cache it could take 25 mins or 55 mins to complete. The choice is yours. You may also like to take along some bread to feed the ducks.

Nunney Castle is a small French style castle surrounded by a deep moat built for Sir John Delamare in 1373. A veteran of the Hundred Years War, Sir John would later become Sheriff of Somerset.

During the Civil Wars (1642-51) Cromwells men used cannons to blast a great hole in the North wall of the castle forcing the garrison to surrender. The damaged wall finally collapsed in 1910.

Due to its small size and ruined interiors, there is not a great deal to see of the castle, but surrounded by the moat, it is an attractive feature in a pretty village.

The posted co-ordinates above take you to a sign. There is a telephone number on the sign to phone the EH. Number the numbers like so : 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11

and solve the following equation to get the co-ordinates to the cache (tupperware container).

As stated in the desciption above you can choose whether to drive or walk between the 2 stages of the cache. If you walk I guess it would be a round trip of about an hour against 25 mins if you drive. There are also a couple of routes to the cache, one of which involves a public footpath through someones farm/garden so if you take this route please park at the entrance to the property and do not drive onto their land.
