From this place huge amounts of ice was shipped to England,
Scotland, Holland and other European countries.

The cache is a half-litre plastic box in a shopping bag.
Before refrigerators were invented, ice was used to keep food
chilled. Several artificial dams were made on Nesodden. And in
winter huge blocks of ice was cut from those dams and transported
to storage and then shipped by barges to markets in many European
countries. The cache is hidden on the remains of the biggest
storage and shipping building for ice blocks. The ice would be
buried in sawdust, and hardly melt at all while in the building.
The barges would use sand as ballast when going to the place, and
this sand is still on the seafloor by the site. Divers have found
items from Holland here. My great-grandfather used to live nearby
and cut ice during winters.
Approach can be made by car or boat. Parking a car can be done at
Gaupmyrdammen, a dam south east of the cache, by the road. Expect a
20 minute walk through the forest down to the sea.

- Coin from United Arab Emirates.
- TB haj-haj.
- First finder certificate.
- Log book and stashnote.

Isblokker ble brukt for å holde mat kjølig før moderne kjøleskap
ble utviklet. På Nesodden ble det laget flere kunstige dammer. I
vintertiden sagde de store isblokker ut av dammene og fraktet dem
til lagring og transport til Europa. Cachen er gjemt på grunnmuren
til det største av disse lager- og transportstedene. Stedet kalles
”ishuset”, den dag i dag. Isblokken ble lagret i sagmugg og smeltet
nesten ikke i det hele tatt. Blokkene ble fraktet med lekter som
hadde sand som ballast. Denne sanden ligger fortsatt på bunnen
utenfor ishuset. Dykkere har funnet Hollandske gjenstander. Min
oldefar bodde i nærheten og jobbet med issaging om vinteren.
Stedet kan besøkes med bil eller båt. Parkering kan gjøres ved
Gaupmyrdammen, en av dammene som produserte is til ishuset. Denne
er sør-øst for stedet. Det tar ca. 20 minutter å rusle derfra til
sjøen, gjennom skogen.
