Geocache Description:

This cache is a film canister type container (see picture below) holding a log and pencil. There is nothing to trade. Please log your visit and enjoy the beauty of this part of Lafayette.

Please note that this cache's access is limited due to the cemetery's hours. The posted hours for the main gate is daily from 8am to 5pm.

St. John's Cathedral site, including the rear cemetery, was founded in 1821. The current cathedral building, which is the site's third structure, was erected in 1916. The cathedral displays a Romanesque architectural style and an Anglo-American architectural theme. The cathedral itself has a seven bay basilican plan with vaulted side nave and side aisles and a large semicircular apse. Ancillary spaces (chapels, sacristies, and staircases) are articulated as separate geometric units on the exterior - a distinctly Romanesque characteristic. The assembly of these features is displayed in a vertical attenuated way, with many large openings, in a manner reminiscent of the Gothic style.

At the site, there is also a 500 year old live oak tree that has a girth of over 28 feet and limb span of 145 feet. You can't miss it.
