Eggardon Hill, Dorset
Three massive ramparts and two ditches guard this Iron Age hillfort. The site contains other ancient remains including ‘round barrow’ burial mounds dating from the Bronze Age, 3000 years ago. The old Roman road from Dorchester (Durnovaria) to Exeter (Isca) passes by its northern perimeter. The panorama from the top encompasses the coastal high cliffs of Thorncombe Beacon and Golden Cap, and Dorset’s highest hills - Pilsdon and Lewesdon - inland.
The cache is in a plastic lunchbox. The most straightforward route is along the bridleway curving SW at the National Trust sign.
