Geocache Description:

Great view from the parking area! Very short hike from parking lot to the cache. There are at least two trails you can take to get near the cache. Watch out for shale and loose gravel!

The parking area has a great view (panorama) of Mt. Mckinley, Foraker, and Susitna. Not to mention the active volcanos Redoubt and Spurr. I wanted to place a cache in the mountains in an area with a good view without having to take a long hike. We frequently take friends from out of town to this area for the view and get acquainted with the Anchorage area. We occasionally take family photos just below the parking area. The rules for parking seem to change on a weekly basis in this area. Please pay attention to signs - you may have to park further from the cache. The cache is an ammo box with a log book and a few goodies. This is a nice short hike for kids. The box is panted camouflage green and brown – primarily to hide from muggles – not to make it difficult to find. Leaves and small sticks are pushed up on the corners of the box to conceal the edges – but the box is visible. The cache difficulty will go up to three stars when there is snow on the ground.
