Refineries and Sandstone Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Kelsborrow Wayfinders: I went to check this out and it had gone so I've decided to archive it. It's lasted a long time and although it's a good view the hiding place was never ideal as it's was totally exposed in winter when the undergrowth had died back. I'm just surprised it lasted this long. Of course I could always have just chucked a micro down....

I may revisit this in the future as I have archived a few of my sandstone caches recently and I could do with replacing them.

Geocache Description:

The third in a series of caches located on or close to the Sandstone Trail. The Sandstone Trail is a long distance trail running 32 miles from Frodsham to Whitchurch. This cache location offers views of the Mersey, the Wirral and the Welsh Hills. There were once several sandstone quarries in the area and one of these produced a fine pale stone which was used for both the building of Chester Castle and the first Eaton Hall, home of the Duke of Westminster, near Chester.

The best place to park is in a small lay-by where the Sandstone Trail crosses Commonside at N53 15.745 W002 44.173. The cache is only a short walk from here but is not really suitable for prams or wheelchairs. The co-ordinates are an average taken over a number of visits. Please note there is no need to cross any fences to reach the cache. The cache is a tupperware container in a camouflage bag.

11/4/08 - Maintenance visit. Logbook replaced. The cache had migrated along the path so I returned it closer to it's original location. There aren't many places to hide it here and the cache is quite noticeable when there is no undergrowth around so try to make sure it is concealed as best you can. PLEASE WRITE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE PAGE IN THE LOGBOOK
