The NICE VIEW Cache
NOTE: This cache was cleaned up and had some new contents added on Nov. 29, 2009. There's also a new logbook in the cache now.
This is Team Machodoc's first cache. It's an ammo box that's only slightly hidden and placed a bit off an easy path. Please walk around growing vegetation, be careful not to trip over vines and logs, and use insect repellant in the warm months.
The NICE VIEW Cache Location
For a pleasant little walk in the woods, start in Barnesfield Park (enter from highway 301) and go into the woods at the nature trail near the basketball courts. The park closes at dark, but nocturnal cachers, and those in a hurry, can find a paved road just outside the park that crosses the nature trail leading to a point near the cache. (The cache itself is not in the area that's closed at night.)
You can also get to this one by boat!
One drawback to this otherwise pretty little area is that it has recently become a popular place for some people to camp out and fish on holiday weekends. Unfortunately, some of those campers leave their trash behind them. Team Machodoc has cleaned up a bunch of litter along the nature trail and in the immediate area around the cache, but a fair amount of mess was left on the riverbank this summer. The local Parks and Recreation folks have been notified, and plan to do a cleanup when they can, but if you don't mind bringing a "Trash Out" bag with you, that would be a nice thing to do.
