Beside the National Trust land at Frithsden Beeches, this little known spot is a favourite place to walk Lyrique, my friends pampered pooch, who, as the name suggests, loves to chase the deer. She has not caught one yet, but that does not put her off, nor me from looking up venison recipes.
Offroad parking is at N51º 47.346 W000º33.227
Follow the GPS / footpath up the the open field and thence to the cache. On the way, have a look at the fairy rings in the grass.
Fairy rings grow outwards from the centre at a rate of about 8cms a year (that's about 3.5 inches in real money). A ring in France, half a mile across, has been calculated to be 700 years old, but some of these have got to be 85 years old!
When you are furtling about in the trees, if you are there whilst it's all overgrown, please be careful and watch out for fallen branches and holes hidden by the bracken. I would not like anybody to twist an ankle.
The GPS reading seemed quite good, so happy hunting!
