Cross-Fire! (night cache) Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

mlord: This cache just requires too much new setup to "be the same cache" when eventually redeployed. And that could be some time from now, so I'm permanently archiving the first incarnation.

Congratulations to all of the finders, and my condolences to those who didn't make it out here in time.

Cheers

Geocache Description:

More night-caching fun for the Dark Months.

This cache is all about getting caught up in the cross-fire in The Zone.
Where is The Zone, you ask? Well you'll have to find it yourself, at night!

Park in the NCC lot near the posted coordinates (waypoint-1) after dark.

At waypoint-1, you will find a small tag with coordinates for waypoint-2, which can then be reached on good trails from the same parking lot.

There is nothing of note at waypoint-2, but once you get close, just continue onward down the trail, observing carefully for a small reflective yellow hand, which marks the beginning of The Zone. A second reflective yellow hand marks the far end of The Zone. Both yellow hands are within 400m of waypoint-2, and within 100m of each other.

Within The Zone, there is exactly one point, on the trail, from where observant eyes may be able to spot a highly directional blinking red indicator. Once spotted, proceed along the path of the indicator, until a second indicator is also visible to one side. This is the cross-fire point.

The cache itself was originally hidden low, a few metres before and to one side of the second indicator, as approached from the cross-fire point.

However, the original ammo box container was subsequently stolen, and is now replaced with a redirect tag in the same location. This tag gives the bearing and distance from there to a new large ammo box in a new location nearby.

The final cache, tag, indicators, and immediate approaches are all dry (unlike L.A.D.I.T.H. cache), but the main trail has puddles and mud in places, so rubber boots are a good idea. In winter, skis are recommended, but even plain snow boots may suffice.

Winter and bike friendly, probably dog friendly too. Cacher friendly? Well, you be the judge of that!
