Geocache Description:

This is the second in the Bute Geology Geocache series and we explore the oldest rocks on the Island of Bute

The folded schists, greywacks and grits of Dalradian North Bute are over 500 million years old and are by far the oldest on Bute.
The cache is an army surplus fuse canister, hidden in an outcrop of folded schist overlooking the beautiful Burnt Islands. The rocks here display the immense forces at work that metamorphosed sedimentary rocks and folded them like plasticine!
These rocks also display glacial striation from the last ice age. Enjoy this gentle walk from the ferry car park at N55 55.224 W5 09.518 Follow the path and cross Balnakailly Burn at N55 55.229 W5 10.022

Watch out for seals in the bay as you log the cache.
