Geocache Description:

A quaint little gold mining town just off the 49 highway.

Mokelumne Hill was once the county seat of Calaveras county. It still boasts the oldest still standing 3 story brick building in California. There is a nice pub and a whole lot of history in this town. There are old trapper journals that state that this town was the original site of gold being found in California by Europeans in 1846!!!! Yes thats right, it is purported that French trappers were mining the Moke River 3 full years prior to Sutters discovery at Coloma!

The cache is located in probably one of the most historical spots in the town, my favorite places to hide!! It is an ammo can with a log, geonote, pencils, and various trade items. It is being placed out there with "Wandering Woody" TB for the first to find.

Thank you for enjoying my cache!

Peace!
