Well-Come!
|
This is a neat little mountain spring that flows
from a rock. Someone put a pipe into the rock, and it runs 24/7. We
were told by a friend who was born & raised here, that its
purpose was to water the horses, when this was the only road from
Asheville to Lake Lure & beyond, and horses were the only
"horsepower" to pull the wagon. As horses were gradually phased out
and gave way to the automobile, this was still a favorite spot to
get water for the radiator for the old "T-Model" before climbing
the mountain road. The water still flows today, and folks still
stop to fill their water jugs, so you may have to wait your turn at
getting a drink or locating the cache. Warning! Although many people
drink this water, no one has ever gotten sick. But be mindful,
however, that this is UNTREATED water, and you should
use your own judgment.

The cache container is a ½ gallon plastic jar
hidden about 15 to 18 paces from this small spring. It contains a
log and small exchangeable items. There is parking directly at the
spring as well as across the street. Both the spring and the
parking areas are on roadway property. The area is often quite
busy, so please be discreet and rehide the cache well. Note: the
area where the cache is hidden may be a bit muddy. (Boots may be
handy! )There should be a pencil in the cache container,
but you may still want to bring one of your own.
