Geocache Description:

We’ve all seen “outdoor sculptured art” while driving to work or going shopping. Most of the time we drive on by without giving it a second thought. This piece was so unusual I actually got out of my car to have a closer look. The sculpture encircles a small oak grove next to a busy Fairfield intersection. From the street you can see three 5-by-3 foot bronze acorns connected to steel lines and 17 bead-like granite forms each weighing 300 pounds hanging from the lines. Inside the grove and not visible from the street are two more of the giant acorns. Sacramento artist Jack Nielsen created this work which was dedicated in 1998. His inspiration was the belief held by local Indians that an oak grove belonged to the entire tribal community. To him the sculpture was about renewal and the embracement and acceptance of the cycle of life. Spend a few minutes walking around taking in as much of the sculpture and the grove as you can. I hope you find it as interesting as I did. (Thanks to Don Harness/Staff Writer Vacaville Reporter). Caution: There is no parking adjacent to the cache site. You’ll have to park in the shopping center parking lot and use the crosswalks or take a longer walk from the local neighborhoods. Be careful because the intersection can be busy at times. There is some poison oak in the back of the grove but not near the cache.
